Prospects Versus Open World Saves
Icarus servers handle two very different jobs. Prospects are timed drops with an objective and a hard return to orbit, so the server's value is keeping that session alive while your crew logs in and out across a week. Open world mode is the opposite: a persistent map that grows for months, which is where automatic daily backups with 10 rolling slots really earn their place.
Both modes store their state as save files on the server. You can download a prospect or open world save from the panel, keep it as an archive, and upload it again later, which makes moving between maps such as Olympus, Styx and Prometheus a file operation rather than a reset.
