Keys to a Successful Business Website

The single most important factor in a successful site is targeted traffic.  That is traffic from search engines from visitors that are specifically looking for the information, product or service you offer.  Web design, features, blogs etc. all take a back seat.  Great design is useless unless you have visitors.  Many businesses spend a good deal of money on site design and then neglect marketing their site and putting money and effort into building their search engine rankings.  It is fairly easy to get visitors using social sites and several other traffic building strategies and schemes, but many of these bring in untargeted traffic, that is traffic from sources with no interest in your information, product or service.  This kind of traffic will never convert any significant into customers or revenue regardless of the volume.  Many service guarantee you several thousand visitors a day, but unless it’s targeted traffic, it’s a waste.

Let’s say you’ve done a fairly good job of SEO and marketing your site, and you are getting a steady flow of targeted traffic.  The next most important factor is a simple, focused design.  Take a look at the most successful sites on the web, Amazon, Google, Ebay.  They all are built with a focus on making it as simple as possible for a visitor to take the desired action.  Too many web design companies get too concerned about looks and features and unnecessarily complicate business websites.  A favorite quote of mine from Albert Einstein is  “Make things as simple as possible, but no simpler”.  GOBI, an Atlanta Web Design and Peachtree City Web Design company has this exact philosophy and creates some very successful websites.

Finally, the last factor is speed.  Google has recently announced that load speed is now one of their factors in determining page rankings.  You do not want to lose valuable targeted traffic because the load speed of your site was tool slow.
