Researching a Web Hosting Company

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of reseller hosting companies for you to choose from when you decide to start up a new web site. This is the hardest part of setting the web site up, choosing the right hosting services to meet your needs.

Narrow your search at first by looking only at the companies that provide the feature you want to operate your web site. Then for the sites that interest you, go check out the terms of service they offer and check out the details of their hosting packages. These details will be key elements in choosing between hosts. Determine the type of support they will offer their customers, and if you do not like the service can you get your money, or a portion of your money refunded? On those hosting package write down how much bandwidth they provide, how much disk space is available, the add-ons that are included, the support they offer, and the uptime you will be receiving. For each company that you were interested in compare the notes to the others you were interested in. This will provide you with the ability to choose between the companies based on their support, price, and the features they provide.

Web Hosting Tips: Control Panel

Web-based control panel is a standard feature offered by every web hosting plan available on the market. You can control various aspects of the cheap hosting space from the control panel by accessing it directly using a standard web browser. Of course, there are several features that are essential; you must have these features even when you are getting a cheap web hosting.

Make sure you can manage your hosting space easily using a web-based file manager. FTP is definitely better if you are uploading large files or a lot of files to the server, but web-based file manager is so much easier to use when you want to make small changes or upload a single file to the server.

The control panel your web hosting company is offering must also grant access to email accounts and management. Not only will you be able to create email addresses, you will also be able to check the mails and start newsletters easily.

Domain management is another feature some web-based control panels are also offering. If you are managing multiple sites hosted on one server, being able to manage domain names is certainly a huge plus. Make sure you can also add and remove domain names anytime you want.

What Do You Look For In A Web Hosting Company?

Before you start running around the web, looking for advice on which web hosting company to use for your web site, you need to ask your self a few questions. From a technology standpoint, there’s not a lot of difference between the different hosts. They pretty much all offer the same software, databases, email address and cPanel for their services. If your not sure what companies to look at you just need to look around a bit. Like some hosting found here for example. There’s really quite a few to choose from. If your site is just new, or currently gets small amounts of traffic, then just about any web company should work.

What you do want however, is a host that is reliable. There’s nothing that bugs me more, then having a website down for unscheduled problems. Really, considering the maturity and low cost of most hardware and software solutions for web hosting, there’s no reason to accept much down time from a web host. They only time most hosts run into trouble, is when they oversell their servers. Meaning, they try to host too many websites on the same machine. One of the most important things you can do for your websites, is to keep current backups of all your work. I use WordPress for a lot of my sites, and there are a number of plugins that take frequent backups of both my database and my html files. The backups are emailed to me every day. With current backups, it’s pretty simple for me to move my site to a new hosting company in a matter of minutes.

Top Features of Webhosting Companies

Most webhosting companies are so competitive that they offer similar services.  The big distinctions will come in price, how much is included in that price, and the quality of customer support.  Some of the other factors you may consider are the length of time a webhost has been in business, whether they use renewable energy, [...]

The Realities of A Web Hosting Based Business

It never ceases to amaze me at how quickly technology marches on.  I’ve worked with computers for my entire professional career spanning some twenty five years.  I’ve been around computers even longer, if you start counting from the first day my father brought home a TRS-80 by Radio Shack, and I proceeded to teach my [...]

How Much Should You Be Paying For Web Hosting?

First of all, what you should be paying for web hosting, probably has very little to do with what you actually end up paying for web hosting.  I’ve been at this game for a while now, and have paid anywhere from zero dollars a month for web hosting, up to around $150 per month for [...]
